Jim(Barrelhunter not Friscan),
What I did was common sense, nothing special. Man and the quotation thing I learned in the 3rd grade, it surprised the Sh*t out of me that some of the guys of the forum did not know what that meant, once again assumed common knowledge.
Thank you.

Thor
You're question on long range shooting is one we all wrestle with. Common vernacular for a Marksman is sniper and it was a much-used word during WWII, just not one that hit the books "often." The reason is Snipers are considered a defensive posture and WWII was an offensive war for the US. Of all the long range shooters in US history Sgt. Alvin York is the most famous of them all, Friscan takes great pride of him being south of the Mason Dixon and you’ll notice all writings on Sgt. York refer to him as a Marksman. We have to acknowledge most of our hero’s grew up south of the Mason Dixon with McArthur, Allen, Patton etc. being raised at Benning or spending considerable time south of the Mason Dixon or west of the Mississippi and that influences military writing style and vernacular. Marines…they’re just different…real different.
Friscan
I’m sure you caught Gray Bonnets as being a 121st motto but I’m figuring those with no 8th ID understanding may loose part of the joke.

No not MacArthur Man I hate that guy, first killed a bunch of bonus marchers. Then he says as self promoting expert on the Japanese, he said they would never attack the Philippines and that they would never attack the Philippines(which they did). Then he botches the defense of the Philippines by putting all his men on a peninsula that cannot be reached by any deep hulled craft. Then he doesn't command his men and stays in the bunkers on Corriegador the whole time. Then he deserts his men. The reason he gets put in charge of basically the "Australian Defense Command" is because Marshall wanted him put in charge as of few men as possible and also as far away from Washington and his there as possible. If Marshall could've he would've assigned him to the Defense of Antarctica. Then we he does lead his men into battle he botches it as much as possible. Before the Korean war he says the North Koreans will never attack, They did. Then when he pushes to-wards the Yalu he says the Chinese will never attack, they did. Then to top it all off he never ever spent a single night in Korea, he may have spent his days in Korea but he was always safe at his house in Japan sleeping that night. That my friends is my rant against MacArthur. As you can tell I dislike him even though he is a Norfolk native. Also Barrelhunter, Patton was of southern heritage but was born and spent most of his young life in California. Even his southern Heritage originally came from New York. -Josh

Simply calling him dugout Doug would have worked. Irrespective, California was not what we think of today as being Kalifornia.
Is anyone else getting hinky results trying to post?

Lil Beav The last few days I've logged in and everytime I've gone to post I've been bounced right back to the main page. It was driving me carzy. I couldn't open your thread on the new impression because of it and I'm thinking other members were having the same problem. The text book definition for hinky is when the hair on the back of your neck stands straight up. I did virus scans, spy bot checks and immunizations and nothing worked. Hell, I felt like the CIA had given me a burn notice. I believe it was a probards glitch...but who knows. Maybe Jethro was having the computer geek mess with me. Jim

Yeah, everything is cool. It was only on two proboards sites and not the big board and I have no idea what the glitch was. SpyBot came up clean and my virus scan was perfect. It could have been a comcast issue with the two boards that comcast central fixed.

This weeks Stitch Jedi is going to Lil Beav with the Gravelotte...however you spell it…thread. He's done some darned fine research and talked mom or dad into walking around and taking pictures. I'd really like to give it to the photographer though as whoever it is, they have a fantastic eye.
Keep up the good work.

I was going to give Cottonballs his first Stitch Jedi for learning but decided against it.
Instead, Cottonbaler is getting it for supportive documentation of an argument with pictorial evidence regarding an M41 Jacket thread. He went hunting for bear and had the resources to justify his argument. He also got an attaboy from Jonathan, who is a JAG Lawyer, for having his evidence lined up and well presented. Mighty fine work kid.
I believe everyone will appreciate him getting it alone this week as its long overdue and well earned.
