Nope. Greaser, Hand, Martin, Jonathan, and I agree with you based on different aspects. This jacket was over Frankensteined for movie X and it’ll be a reenactor nightmare until the next movie comes out.

I wonder why the MODs deleted the thread? Makes no sense to me

Tom
I gave you the award for the research technique no the content. Rollin is a Hollywood vendor not a reenactor vendor and he states such on his web site. He isn’t false advertising and he isn’t selling to you or me, and as we aren’t his customers, we shouldn’t be bashing him. He’s selling to Hollywood and doing a darned good job of it. His jackets have a good faded look to them and I’m sure this last batch was for St. Anna and the temperatures “professional actors” would be facing. The jackets themselves are great for a battle of the bulge event in Florida and I believe that was the intent of Rollin. They’re also good for reenactors doing Living History north of the Mason Dixon and you have to respect that aspect of reenacting.
You got the award for posting links, a thought out argument, and explaining that argument in a very articulate manner. We didn’t have to guess about what you were saying and you showed us with pictures.
Don’t be bummed the thread was pulled due to other content; you did you homework and got an A+ for it. I’m still trying to figure out how a women’s zipper is European.

I am not really bashing rollin. He is a great vender and I have purchased from him once with great results. I was more stating that if you want stitch nazi his M41 Jackets aren't the way to go.

The tread itself had degenerated to bashing. You were clear and concise in your argument, and as a debater you have a real future. The debate is 90% of research, it's where you separate the wheat from the chaff and get to the facts of an item of interest.
The picture of the darned (sewing repair) sleeve brought back some real fond memories of my childhood. It also got me to break out a needle and thread to see if I still remembered how to do it. Darning is a lost art and it can be done with a darning egg, light bulb, rifle stock or a coffee cup. It’s also something any kid who grew up during the depression was required to know. Whoever darned that sleeve either used period ingenuity or it was an original repair.

Last week was just too quiet to justify any awards. I will note this week Friscan is going about a USS Arizona impression and Lil Beav is looking at other music for WWII that isn't Pop. I think maybe he hit an ethnic festival and is considering what members of the 90th would have been listening to. Col Darby mentions polka music in his book and Charlie met a Polish American vet over the summer so I'm thinking he's looking at other popular music from around the nation.
I got hung up with a Chili cook off and some computer work over the week end and we had to take a our air conditioner out of the window and do winter change over. I figure our Georgia boy and the rest of you guys were doing the same as well as homework for school. I hope you appreciate how shop class and art are going to benifit you in future discussions. If I hadn't learned how to fire clay and ceramics in school I'd have been toast in some of the discussions this week.

A lot of people took pictures of me in school and I will see if they can send me one. But till then I will tell you what I did I wore my class B uniform with M41 field jacket, my book bag was my garrison bag, and for lunch I had a boloney sandwich wrapped in cheese cloth and wax paper. It was great fun walking down 79th St. and Madison Ave in full WWII uniform with People not even patting an Eye. Even though I was expecting to be asked if I was a boy scout. Lil Beav

Man I thought you would've expected not to be noticed, remember nothing surprises anybody in the New York Met area, which you are part of even though you live in north Jersey. Man they probably wouldn't have noticed even if you dressed like Tim Curry in Rocky Horror.

I spent a long four-day weekend at mom’s house winterizing her windows and checking out her car. I got some research time involving home front issues and even asked about palm trees in Hoboken…sorry Jimmy no joy on that one. She did suggest looking to the city of Carney and camp Kilmer as she remembers an amusement park being located there.
As for the hat,…I LOVE IT. Can I snag it for my computer wallpaper and I’ve got a spot on the wall that needs a picture.
I’ll be announcing a winner for Sunday a little later then usual but you guys will have to wait in curiosity. Sorry but no hints.

This week goes to Friscan for posting the picture of the Service Cap from his photobucket. I was having trouble articulating that Patton was on the design board so it's Cavalry, Armor, and Infantry and that dependent on the date of the hat the short strap is a nape strap. I PM’d Old MP but Friscan had the photobucket and boom, rang the bell.
Before I rack out I’d like to add to what I posted about Carney and Camp Kilmer. Most county fairgrounds have a history with Cavalry so having a Camp at a fairground may put a carnival ride in the background dependent on if a county fair coincided with an encampment. Carnival workers are called Carneys so checking on local Circus troops in that area may be in order. I’ve been too busy to look at Barnum and Bailey, Ripley and others but it’s worth a shot.

The only amusment park I know of in the North Jersey area is PALISADES AMUSMENT PARK over looking Edgewater on the Palisades. It was located in Fort Lee (my old home town) and Cliffside park. www.palisadespark.com/index.htmLil Beav
