hey guys
for what it's worth, i'm ordering a new Springfield Armory GI mil-spec parkerized M1911A1. hoping to go pick it up on 4/19. FYI the dealer is a swell guy, showed us what his dealer pricing is: $437 or so. plus the added fees and shipping. but that's the "base" price, in case anyone out there is wondering how much of a mark-up you're looking at if a dealer quotes you a higher price, i guess. your mileage may vary, of course. i'll let you guys know how it is and what i think of it once i get it (if i can put it down long enough to type... then again i could just type with my left hand... hmm...)

You have nice new "toys". It´s maybe a stupid question, but are they decoration (not working), blank or full working ( I don´t know, how to say)?

Friscan, it doesn't come with those grips, does it? where did you get them? i guess it doesn't come with the shelter half or mag pouch either, huh, haha looks from the photo like the thumb safety's not the GI type either, guess i can swap that out pretty easy though.
thanks for the photos! i can't wait for mine!

Mine is a Springfield Armory 1911A1 built in 1973. I like it. Good feel. Haven't shot it yet.. It's still an unfired piece totally. Has custom grips made of aircraft windscreen and inserts with a name and RA number of a SFC and where all he served and who with. I've got a lot of the tools for her too including an original 1911 tool, cleaning rod, and spare grips. s82.photobucket.com/albums/j261/old_soldier/stuff/weapons/?action=view¤t=m1911A1.jpg

Why swap a perfectly serviceable part when it doesn't say US Property on the side? Don't get me wrong, my .45 was made in the early 30's and says...well a bunch of Spanish words. It was made on Colt Machines to Colt specs. My theory is seeing a small difference in a part versus changing said part to parkerizing that doesn't match will not help its authenticity or increase its economic value. Friscan has one of the best repops on the market and there is no real reason to change it. We can burn incents, pray to Iron Mike and sing Kumbya and when we wake in the morning the serial numbers and cartouches will not be WWII. Besides, holstered it isn't visible and drawn you're opponent shouldn't be able to see it after the smoke clears...or anything for that matter. You just can't turn this into a true counterfeit but it could save your life and pass as a d**ned good stage prop. I would however spring for some McCormick or Eagle magazines for home defense and have the feed ramp pollished if you ever plan on shooting hollow points or blanks. Jim PS: Ok boys, fix the electronic sensor, it's cramping my vocabulary. If a word has passed the censors during WWII and McCarthy it ain't that bad. To Hell and Back, d**ned the Torpedo's...see what I mean.

Well, i finally got my M1911A1!!!
found it on auctionarms.com, picked it up this past monday.
I am very pleased with her, the only thing i plan on changing right now is the grips, i'm leaning towards plastic grips, as they are more appropriate for an A1, i like the look of the double-diamonds but i believe they were more of an M1911 item. the pistol was very oily when i got it (not a bad thing, just messy) but last night i sat down and field-stripped and cleaned and reassembled it, and it is much nicer to handle and operate now. it looks tha same as Friscan's, and i really don't like the grips it has on it now, but when i get new ones maybe i'll take some photos and post them.
can't wait to fire it, will let you know how that goes when i get the chance.
