Compared to some of the comments I may make about gun control and its sponsors thejeepgeneral was pretty tame with his comment.

Jim Very true, but it is still something that may offend people and it has no connection to WWII reenacting or a Colt .45 Actually the Crime Control Act of 1990 and Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 have a direct connection to WWII reenacting and the 1911 imported from Norinco as well as magazines for the M-1 Carbine and Thompson, BAR and Johnson Rifle. www.infoplease.com/spot/guntime1.htmlIf the Lady from New York wishes to link herself directly to those two Bills that Bill passed she has placed herself in the debate. Personally if find the Norinco to be a POS however the return of US made weapons from Nations who purchased them hinders our ability to get 1911's from South America and weapons seized by North Vietnam. Jim To get back on a WW2 related topic........... I have a norinco 1911 and love it. It is one of their better copies. The US made ones are nothing special. I have seen both a Auto ordnance and Springfield 1911 copies break. Never had a problem with mine. Supposedly they make good match shooters Dan

Dan
I should have phrased that differently. Norinco is a great starter 1911 for competitive shooting. Compared to the high end Wilson, McCormick and Springfield (high end not reenactor model) they aren't as accurate out of the box. Upgraded with a Springfield Armory 4 groove roto barrel, Caspian main spring, Wolff recoil springs, and better sites they'll reach the same price as their competition.
Their 9mm sucks and the shotgun can't compete with US shotguns when it comes to quality. The 9mm is reminiscent of the old Saturday Sight Specials.
My “Be American, Buy American” thoughts aside, I’d still buy US and with hind site, I wish I’d gone with Colt and not the Spanish Colt. What I paid to have parts installed by a Smith could have been saved with an ‘A1 variant.

Too many originals going cheaper then Norinco, also not many events allow their use. I'm not even sure if they're legal to hunt with in Pennsylvania...maybe around Philledelphia. I can appreciate it being an arm you can legally own at your age, but I'd suggest looking around first.

well, getting back on topic here, haha...
i finally received my Springfield Armory M1911A1, and have field stripped, fired and cleaned it a few times. Very satisfied with it overall, fired 36 rounds through it with no problems, other than once or twice it didn't feed smoothly when the magazine was inserted and the slide released. though that could probably be ascribed to the lower-quality magazine.
the pistol has a nice finish, i plan on replacing the cheap wood "US" grips that came on it. other than that, i think i'll leave it "as-is."
i would definitely recommend it to anyone for reenacting.

Don't judge function until you've put 500 rounds down range, it’s a poor mans tune up and really helps to evaluate the function.
Also, disassemble your magazines and do a proper lubrication on them. Personally, I like McCormack followers though after checking their site I don’t think they make them anymore.

Why wouldt they be legal? I hunt with shotguns alot, the only thing I would have to do is put a plug in the mag so it will only hold 2 rds. Evan
