Well to what i know when crossing the mosselle for 1 of the times a pontoon bridge had been made and half way before the division was across the the river the Germans opened up with artillary and the men had gotten across but not the supplys and my Great uncle Pvt. Daniel Duane saw a stable with a cart and he got the horse and the cart got some guys to fill the wagon with supplys and he did quite a few crossings under enemy fire.Since he had lived in Ireland until he emmigrated in the 1930's he had learned to ride horses and use wagons so he could make money from farming with neighbours.I never found out weither he won any award because I never saw a copy of his discharge papers and there is a high chance that his records were destroyed in the fire that set fire to the U.S. army papers in the 1970's
