Not including specilized types, there were 3 main types of 1st aid pouch used by the average GI in WW2. These were the M-1910, M-1924, & M-1942. The M-1910 was the WW1 pattern with a double snap closure. I've had these dated into the early 40's. Many were used by the USMC, but you still see one once in a while. The next was the M-1924 which switched to the single lift dot closure. It is a very short pouch. I've seen these dated to 43. The next pouch was the M-1942. It was larger as the Carlisle tin fit extremely tight in many of the 24 models. The M-1942 was used until the M-56 replaced it. You will find these in OD7 with dates into the mid 50's. Some were used in Vietnam as well. I have a few of these in OD7 dated 44 and 45. Here's a list of comparisons.

There will be more as I dig them out. All of these are acceptable to use. Even the dark OD as many replacements recieved the newer gear. As you can see, they very in shade and color. Most of these are of equal wear and fading. Try to avoid the jungle 1st aid kits and the larger squad ones. Our medics would have carried that and left the room on the squad leader's belt for other things.
