I have heard more than enough about peoples repro gear breakin And well heres the reason: all things these days is rubbish Clothes ETC and in those days everything was made to last also the repro gear is made in china.Reenacters then tend to use original stuff because its stronger but then if they break it they have just broken a piece of history. So its all rather complicated really.

In some way, you are right, but really good repro web gear is just as expensive as orinal stuff! Ok, the original stuff is old and it´s a part of history, but it was proved. And that is why I use original web gear up to that date, where somebody can tell me, where I could buy good repro web gear, that is not too expensive.

I like using repop stuff. I like how it looks new. You have to figure the stuff back then wouldn't have looked like it was 60 years old because it really in most cases had just been made. (my original web gear looks like it took a direct hit from a Flack 88) The only original stuff I use are packs and pack tails.

Pretty much everything I use is original. Only things that aren't are my boots(replaced the originals the sole broke on), my 41 and 43 jackets(replaced my battered original 43's i was using), and my hbt cap(i just don't have a good original in the collection). Everything else is lower end stuff from the collection. It's all held up pretty decent. I've noticed my wool trousers are starting to fray at the pockets, but I'll fix 'em and use 'em till the rot.. They were cheap when I got 'em. Most the original stuff I use was cheap when I got it. I'm gonna get repop german stuff so I don't trash my originals, but I'm not in a hurry. I'll trade out for repop stuff as I need new too. But at the moment, it works. True, it is a loss of history, but I've got so much, it's extras and I can fit in it or use it.. Saves me money.. As a single parent, that's important. Besides, I have my addiction... ummm collection to feed..LOL Fins.

i think re pro is better quality because it isn't sixty years old. i have a lot of original gear and am trying to replace it with repro because it is falling apart. i dont want to destroy any sixty year old WWII relics that are going to pro ably going to be worth thousands down the road like when we are eighty. you original stuff could get you an early retirement. i would go with repro for quality and to preserve the original stuff

Originals are most probably mustering out gear, factory seconds, Guard and Reserve issue or just plain used. Sorry, we're not talking relics here.
As for repro's being more serviceable then 60 year old, I'm sure most of us believe that American made 60-year-old gear is head and shoulders better then Appu made crap. Unless or until India, Pakistan, and China enter the bronze age, and learn to make alloys the buckled on belts and suspenders is going to continue to break. Hell, they can't build houses to with stand earthquakes.
If you're relying on the French bidding high for your originals on e-bay, you're better off looking for the easter bunny and the tooth fairy. True collectors die with their kit tucked away and their wives put it on the front lawn during garage sales. Sorry Finster, your daughter is going to have one hell of a garage sale when you kick the bucket. And we all know John has opted to put a Viking funeral pyre in his will.
I figure I've got two WWI helmets for under $20 off e-bay so if they're not going for fat cash why figure my collection will. Zone welding has a stack of WWII stuff sitting out front this week and driving down the road at 35 mph I was able to identify one WWI helmet sitting on top.
The real money in Militaria is vehicles, buy low, frame up restoration and sell high, that and Iron Crosses and Nazi armbands.
