Hey Tyler,
Is your stock dinged up and practically black from age? If so, throw it into a dishwasher and steam it. The steam will clean out a LOT of the old oils and raise some of the nicks and dings out of the wood. Once cleaned, then apply the needed amounts of linseed oil to bring back the nice look of your stock.
Kind Regards, FRISCAN

I swear by oven spray. It takes all the dirt and oil out of the stock. Then you can handle the stock from ground up with stockoil and stockwax. If you like, you can handle the stock with sandpaper before, for getting the stock smoothly. I did it sometimes and I´m very satisfied.

oven spray .... I never would have thought of that. Yup, the stock is really dark, it is in the 803,000s so it is pretty old. I may try the dishwasher, can you post directions of how to do it?? Also is there someplace on line where you can look up your rifles SN and see when it was made, who it was issued to ect... Thanks for the help guys, Tyler

Yes, oven spray. It´s very simple, but very effective, too. Ask your mother, how does she get your oven clean from fat and whatever But, only use oven spray, if you really want to restaurate the stock!

Tyler When I restore a stock I will sand it down to bare wood.Sometimes I use wood filler(depending on the rifle). Then use a rag and rub boiled linseed oil. 2-3 coats. When it is dry lightlly rub with steelwood. I have done this many times. ;D
