Gap 2008, Good event, I went up for the day on Saturday. The shuttle system for taking people to the field battle was FUBAR. I was on the bus with the Battle of the Bulge vets, and the bus driver got lost!!!!! So we ended up missing the entire field battle So a Jeep came to take us into the woods where the woods battle was going on, at one point the Germans were on the left side of the bus, and the Allies were on the other side firing as we drove thru But I got some good pictures of the German reenacters, so now I'm glad we got lost. Not very many civilians, well there were alot but not as many as I expected. There were some very impressive barracks displays, for me the winner would be the German 5th Mountain Unit neat display. Met up with some of the guys from this board (young90th, sgt103, cactuspatchkid, 1942wwiiGPW, and Dac2009) Over all I had a great time, it was only my second event there. Sadly the Army wants to rip down most of the barracks within 10 years, so we are not sure if the event will go on or not. Tyler 103d ID,410th Inf, HQ Co, I&R Plt.

My first Gap, and apart from the RAGING stomach flu I had Wednesday night, it was good.
Guys from our unit knocked out the Tiger with mines, I fragged the Stug and I sniped a motorcycle currier off his bike (He took his hit and almost flipped his bike in the process) A good time was had by all, 3d Army had its Promotion Ceremony (on MY friggn barracks floor, place reeked of cheep champaign the rest of the week) and I got my Corporal stripes. Cant wait for Mini Gap.

For better or worst, its part of the hobby. Nothing can be done about it without alienating 75% of reenactors. As long as there is responsibility and good judgment partaken, the two really get along quite nicely.
My fire-team and I were confronted and borderline threatened by a drunken German NCO at Ft. Mifflin, after we got away from him (after his 2 hour rant about N*****s, Mexicans, Muslims, Nazis and War in general) We reported him and he was dealt with swiftly by event-command. Stuff like this is going to happen, but by dealing swiftly and harshly with the offenders, the occurrences can be kept to a bare-minimum.
And lets face it, reenactors are weird with or with out boose in them.
I had to LOL, I was sick the first two days of the GAP (Stomach flu) so i was pretty much hung over the toilet that whole time. I had tons of guys ask me how many I had last night!
