Afternoon Dogfaces,
Here is how the U.S. 30th Infantry Regiment received it nickname...
U.S. 30th Infantry Regiment:
"BATTLE BOAR'S": The U.S. 30th Infantry Regiment received this name for their steadfast dedication and determination in stopping the German advances on their positions in their first engagement at the Battle of the Marne July 14th-18th, 1918. It was given to them because of their stubborness like that of the boar not to give its ground.
"FRISCANS": The U.S. 30th Infantry Regiment after World War I was stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco. After the many years of service and being stationed at the presidio the citizens referred to them as "San Francisco's Own" ...the "FRISCAN'S"...
Kind Regards, Sgt. James Dunigan III(NCOIC) 1st Battalion, Able Company U.S. 30th Infantry Regiment U.S. 3rd Infantry Division(Reenacted)
