Here is how the U.S. 7th Infantry Regiment received it nickname...
U.S. 7th Infantry Regiment:
"COTTONBALERS": The U.S. 7th Infantry Regiment received this name after their stand at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815, where they fought behind cotton bales giving them the nickname..."COTTONBALER'S!"
*Note* Also enlisted in the U.S. 7th Infantry Regiment's ranks was a man named Daniel Emmett a musician in the regiment, who wrote the song.. "Dixie!"
